Why it was recalled

A short circuit may cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

What was recalled

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2014 Suzuki DL 1000 motorcycles manufactured January 17, 2014, to June 5, 2014, 2015 Suzuki DL1000 motorcycles manufactured November 4, 2014, to February 6, 2015 and 2016 Suzuki DL1000 motorcycles manufactured June 11, 2015, to July 15, 2015. The affected motorcycles have a wiring harness that may rub against the bottom of the fuel tank. Vibration from riding may cause the wiring insulation to wear off, allowing a bare wire to short circuit against the fuel tank.

What to do

Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the motorcycles and reroute the wiring harnesses as necessary. Any damaged harnesses will be repaired or replaced. This work will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 29, 2016. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service number at 1-714-572-1490. Suzuki's number for this recall is 2A53..
